How do I enable file logging for an Externally Linked File?

From the Community Homepage:

  1. Click the Community Tools link on the left hand menu.
  2. Click the Content link on the left hand menu.
  3. Click the Modify icon to the left of the desired Content.
  4. Click the Modify icon to the left of the desired External File.
  5. Click the Log Download Attempt checkbox and make sure it is enabled.
  6. Click the Update Link button at the bottom of the page.

You have successfully enabled file logging for an externally linked file attached to Community Content.

Project Content or Release

From the Project Homepage:

  1. Click the Project Tools link on the left hand menu.
  2. Click the Content or Releases button in the main body area (whichever has the desired file attached).
  3. Click the Modify icon to the left of the desired Content or Release.
  4. Click the Modify icon to the left of the desired External File.
  5. Click the Log Download Attempt checkbox and make sure it is enabled.
  6. Click the Update Link button at the bottom of the page.

You have successfully enabled file logging for an externally linked file attached to Project Content.

Requirements

  • Manage Content Role (Community and Project)
  • Manage Releases Role (Project)

Notes

  • The log for external files will function a bit differently than the log for local files. Only the fact that an attempt was made is logged, and errors or incomplete downloads are not logged as they are with local files, as we are unable to distinguish this information.
